Mr Chicken

You might not know the name but you more than likely know
and seen his work.

Morris Cassanova (aka Mr Chicken) designs and makes signs
for most of the fried chicken shops in the UK

I love the big fat characters.

Mr Cassanova has published a book. Check it out.

Nice work, nice site, nice everything.

Really into this guys hand rendered type. Makes a change from tight, crisp, dull computer fonts everyone uses day after day. Also its makes a departure from the “hand drawn” type we have seen so much of lately (a la Mighty Boosh) that is overly naive in its approach and all looks the same.

I also really like the use of animated gif, we all need to get a bit lo fi sometimes.

La Boca

This poster was printed in 1832 by Giles Balne

1832.

Believe it mo'fo.

Giles Balne, Printer, born 1777.

The dude was in a great position. He printed lottery tickets.

Funnily enough he then won the lottery, hmm.....
With all the cash he then bought the Vauxhall Gardens and spent the rest of his life printing shit hot posters for them.

This poster is 780 x 532mm and is one of seven kept at the Bodleian Library in the John Johnson collection in Oxford. Well worth a visit to see the real thing.
